The Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has finally spoken on a hacking
report that has left many Kenyans worried about the safety of their
money in the financial institution.
In a statement, the KCB Group acknowledged that it was aware of the
claims alleging that one of its systems had been breached, but dismissed
the reports as malicious information."An investigation points to malicious misinformation that has caused concern amongst some of our customers. The alleged customer data breach has been found to be false," the statement read in part.
The bank guaranteed customers that their data and platforms were safe stating: “We wish to assure all our customers that our platforms and data are highly secured. KCB Group systems including the mobile App have been extensively tested and validated by our internal and the best external data security experts.”
"Multiple layers of encryption, private keys and unique authentication are among the key embedded data security features that safeguard our mobile app. There is no breach to our systems," KCB noted.
The financial institution divulged that legal action would be taken against persons propagating the information on social media that has caused panic among its customers.
In August, the bank closed all its branches to upgrade its banking systems. The services that were improved included ATM & mobile banking, point of sale payments and KCB M-Pesa.
